Things to consider before
choosing a tinter
Before you get your vehicle windows tinted by anyone, here are
some important things that you definitely should be considering
before choosing your next tint company.
First off, let me mention 3 things that we consider are
the most important factors with the actual film quality and the application
process:
1. Custom Fit
At The Tint
Professor all our installations are
Custom Fit. This means we tint below the rubber
line, so the edge of the film never sees daylight
and won't peel later when the
rubber gets harder. We take the film right
to the edge of the window and bevel off, so there is no gap
and
it looks part of
the window.
As an added quality control measure all our tinters follow our
8 point checking process.
2. Fully Metalized Film
It is really important you get a fully metalised
film. If the film is not metalised it will
go purple, bubble and fade. I am sure you
have seen it and how
awful it looks. When
it first is applied it looks fantastic, same
as ours, but after about 12 months it deteriorates
and goes purple.
All Tint Professor's films are Metalized Film. The metal is woven
through the film which gives it strength and acts
like a barrier to reflect the sun's harmful rays
to protect the interior of the
car. Take a look at
our
tint products page here
3. Unconditional Lifetime warranty
Most of the bigger tinting companies
offer a lifetime warranty at the moment. But when
you open up the warranty card
and read the fine print you will discover there
are 6 or 7 conditions that make the film null
and void. Make sure you get an unconditional
lifetime warranty film. For example at The
Tint Professor all film installed by us carry
an unconditional
lifetime
warranty.
So in the unlikely event there is a problem
you can rest assured that the problem will
be fixed! Simple as that. Plus we go even
further than any other tint company. We offer a
No Risk 30 day
money back guarantee. In the unlikely
event you weren't happy with our service
simply bring your car back and we will remove the
tint and give you your money back.
These 3 factors are what makes the difference
between our film and installation service and the
cheap $100 special deals you may have seen
advertised else where.
Our suggestion is to steer clear from this stuff
and look else where. It simply isn't worth
it. |

Some more things to consider...
- Ask the tint shop if they are current members of
the IWFAA.
The International Window Film Association of Australasia
(IWFAA) is the governing body created to improve the standard
of product and installation of window film. All IWFAA members
are encouraged to follow their code of ethics.

- How long have they been in business?
Like any good businesses, good tint companies will
always shine amongst their competition. As a guide, look at tint
companies that have been in business for at least 5-6 years. You
are looking for stability in business practice and durability.
For example, The Tint Professor has been in business for over
12 years and we have grown to now have 7 factory outlets across
Melbourne with more to come soon. It means there will be more
of a chance that the business will be around if something goes
wrong. It simply isnt worth getting a mate to do it or using a
backyard 'tinter'. You would be totally amazed at how many refixes
we end up doing.
- Ensure the tint shop uses their own staff and that they are qualified
to work on your vehicle!
Some places contract out your car to be tinted
by independant tinters. This is a very risky practice indeed.
If there are problems down the track with the workmanship, who
is responsible? You maybe caught in the middle of whose at fault
- the tint shop - or the contractor. Who is going to fix the problem?
At the Tint Professor all our technicians are employed by us and
they undergo extensive inhouse training before they qualify to
touch anyones vehicle.
- Does the tint shop abide by the local state rules?
In the State of Victoria, the rules state that "all windows
of a motor vehicle, other than windscreens, available to the driver
to obtain a view of the road or other road users must have a visible
light transmittance (vlt) of at least 35 per cent. However it
is desirable that the light transmittance of windows to the side
and ahead of the driver is not reduced below 70 per cent".
See VicRoads website for more info...
- Visit the tint shop? Ask plenty of questions.
These are the people you will be allowing to touch
the most or 2nd most valuable thing you own. They may sound fine
over the phone but what are their places of work like? You will
soon get the feel for how the business is run. If they operate
outdoors or in a parking lot you will have to treat this as a
negative since it is imperative that all dust and dirt is removed
from the windows before film is applied. We have state of the
art factories specifically designed to provide the best tinting
environment.
- View some of the tint shops previous work!
If you know someone who has had their vehicle tinted
there have a look at the tint job done. If not visit the shop
or ask to see a recent vehicle tinted by them. Have a close
look at the side windows. The film should be flush against all
edges of the window. Inspect the film itself. If there are any
bubbles of air or the film is not completely flat against the
window then this is a sure sign of sloppy installation.
NB. If looking at a brand new installed film, dont
worry too much if it looks a bit streaky or discoluored as it
just means it may not have dried out totally. After a few weeks
it will dry out and be completely clear.
We actually encourage you to come by and have a
look at what we do. It is your car we want you
to have total piece of mind.
